GW Mechanical NICU / PICU Student Scholarship

GW Mechanical is excited to support a 2nd year Respiratory Therapy Student achieve their dreams of becoming a NICU/PICU RRT with the NPS Certification. Cody, the President of GW Mechanical, is well aware of the significance of this specialty. His life was forever changed when he met the superheroes who took care of his children in 2021. He hopes to encourage current Respiratory Students to specialize in neonatal and pediatric care. Cody’s wife went into preterm labor at 28-weeks. She required an emergency life flight down to Denver to deliver their micro-preemie twins. This is where they met the specialized team composed of a group of Respiratory Therapists, just like he hopes to inspire with this scholarship.

Subsequently, he saw Baby A intubated, given surfactant, on a ventilator, then extubated. Baby B only required CPAP support. While they were then on CPAP support, a pneumothorax occurred in Baby A, resulting in a failed dart requiring a chest tube and reintubation.

Once healed, both babies were back on CPAP, then moved to HHFNC, to then a regular nasal cannula. For 53 days, his children lived in the NICU being supported by the amazing staff around the clock. He has first-hand knowledge of how NICU respiratory therapists are vital in providing specialized, high-quality respiratory care to vulnerable newborns. Their expertise not only supports the immediate needs of these infants but also contributes to their long-term health and development. GW Mechanical, and Cody, are honored to give back to the Respiratory Therapy Community by providing this scholarship to a student whose goal is to work in the NICU/PICU setting and get their NPS Certification for specialized care.
